These are the behind the scenes and outtake photos of Project L: Part 29 – Halloween-ish.

I’ve already written about the photoshoot quite well in the primary part of the project, so I won’t unnecessary repeat myself too much.

The awful, rainy weather was so boring from the viewpoint of a photographer – and most probably from a viewpoint of anybody else. The transition from autumn to winter is just so… grey. I don’t like it at all. But I do like the photos, which is somewhat rare. I’m usually very self-aware of my photography, but this photoshoot, I just seem to like most of the photos quite much. Perhaps the wonderful contrast of the blue suit on a grey day creates that.

About the process
of photography

As with Tii, it’s nice to carry around a flash, as we somehow end up in dark places without proper lighting. This was the case again, as the match factory had quite many limitations – especially on first evening, when we initially went there.

Unfortunately I had forgotten my umbrella to Photour HQ and the factory’s walls, filled with colourful graffiti, were not so suitable for reflecting light. As the ambient light was lacking and the weather was awful, we resulted into straight, hard light from an external 600EX-RT strobe held by an assistant.

We encountered a strange bug when my master 600EX-RT failed to recognize E-TTL and shut down its radio frequencies in the middle of a shoot. After a brief time of cursing at the strobe I reseted it and boom – it worked. How strange, though. That’s never happened to me.

With an assistant, it was so much easier to set the strobe’s positions than just doing it yourself with a tripod and carrying it around.

I’m still a sucker for huge apertures and ambient lighting. I can’t help it, even though I’ve tried to lean away from it. But no, it’s just what I like the most. Perhaps I shouldn’t try to refrain using it, but instead embrace its possibilities.
