These are the behind the scenes and outtake photos of Project L’s 38th part.

There’s only so much you can do during a photoshoot when the weather gets best of you. It’s situations like these where the equipment you’re carrying either is the most important thing you need to get your photos – or instead the most useless and a heavy contraption you’re carrying.

In this project most of my photographic eye was spent on finding the perfect moment when the extremely strong winds wouldn’t throw the model’s hair over her face to cover her eyes. “Screw this,” I told to myself and put the camera to continuous 12fps shooting frenzy to get the single image where the eyes peeked between her hair.

That’s what I’ve always adored in 1D X – it gives you opportunities and eases your workflow to the point that it really feels like cheating. Shooting some fast-paced action? Well, just point the camera at the movement’s direction and hold down the shutter. There, you’ve got dozens of photos to choose from. And that really feels like cheating – but then again, it’s quite necessary.

In this project I utilized my whole lens arsenal, choosing my focal lengths from 11 to 200 millimetres. This was due to Jasmin being a really varied model who knows how to control her tall body’s proportions extraordinarily well.

Despite the strong winds that prevented us from using any kind of strobes, the gods of photographic lighting were on our side; a thin, constant layer of clouds floated between us and the sun, thus diffusing the sharp contrasts of the midday sun into a perfect and neutral lighting. This prevented us from showing blue or even properly coloured skies – even with the help of a circular polarizer filter – but gave us a lighting that allowed to shoot anyhow we wished to.
