May Day 2012

May Day, or as we Finns call it Vappu, is a national Finnish holiday, with its original purpose of celebrating the labouring man. Nowadays it's just a carnivale of drunkness and silly costumes, but most Finns dedicate it to picnics and getting wasted. As the weather was wonderful this year, tons of people gathered around Helsinki, where we also decided to head ourselves and document the behaviour of a Vappufinn.

Why: Photours

Who: Tuomas with Aleksi

Where: Helsinki, Finland

When: May 1, 2012

You can’t have a May Day without overpriced balloons.
A typical intoxicated Finn.
Helsinki Cathedral. Every single time there’s some kind of happening, people gather here. And drink.

The white cap is a proof of one being an abitur.

Firedancers dancing with pois in the Kaisaniemi park.

Alcohol equals violence, unfortinately. A day dedicated to be intoxicated will, with no exceptions, lead to violence. Perhaps it’s the Finn gene?

“Joy for christmas”, is it christmas already?
Single-shot HDR. Utilizing the full dynamic range that the sensor on a 5D Mark III has. ISO speed is quite high, but anything between 100 and 800 has only a minimal effect on this body.

Angry Birds. Angry Birds everywhere. Now attacking innocent people.

Suddenly, Spongebob appears!
